How to type accents on iPhone

On iPhone and iPad, touch and hold a letter on the keyboard to see its accented versions. For letters that are not on that menu, add a keyboard for the language or create a Text Replacement shortcut.

Example: typing é

Long-press the letter

Open the keyboard in any app.
Touch and hold the e key.
Slide your finger to é and lift it.

é is on the long-press menu of the default English keyboard and Gboard shows a similar set.

Add the Spanish keyboard

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards.
Tap Add New Keyboard and choose Spanish.
Tap the globe key to switch while typing.

Text Replacement

Go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Text Replacement, tap +, paste é as the phrase and type a shortcut such as eac. The shortcut syncs to your Mac through iCloud.
