How to Type š (S with caron) on Google Docs
Need š on Google Docs for a name, an address or a word in another language? You do not have to copy it from a website every time. The fastest method is Insert → Special characters, and there are a few backups below for when that one is not available.

- Click Insert → Special characters.
- Type "s with caron" or the code 0161 in the search box, or draw the letter in the box.
- Click š to insert it.
Method 2: Use your computer's shortcut
Docs accepts whatever your operating system types. On Windows use Alt+0154; on a Mac use Unicode Hex Input (hold Option and type 0161); on a Chromebook press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 0161 and press Space.
Method 3: Automatic substitution
- Go to Tools → Preferences → Substitutions.
- Add a shortcut such as sss in the left column and paste š in the right.
- Click OK. Typing the shortcut and a space now inserts š.

About the letter š
š is Unicode U+0161, named LATIN SMALL LETTER S WITH CARON. It is used in Czech, Slovak, Finnish, Croatian, Slovenian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian. A small v above a letter, called háček in Czech and kvačica in Croatian. It softens consonants (č, š, ž, ř) and marks the third tone in Pinyin (ǎ, ǐ).
