How to Type ō (O with macron) on Google Docs
The letter ō does not have its own key on an English keyboard, but Google Docs still makes it easy to type. Use Insert → Special characters, or pick one of the other methods in this guide. ō appears in Mandarin Pinyin, Māori and Hawaiian.

Docs accepts whatever your operating system types. On Windows use the Win+. symbols panel; on a Mac use Unicode Hex Input (hold Option and type 014D); on a Chromebook press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 014D and press Space.

- Go to Tools → Preferences → Substitutions.
- Add a shortcut such as ooo in the left column and paste ō in the right.
- Click OK. Typing the shortcut and a space now inserts ō.
