Ë on HTML: Ë

Or copy it:

Method 1: Codes for web pages

FormatCode for ë
Named entityë
Decimal entityë
Hex entityë
CSS contentcontent: "\00EB";
JavaScript"\u00EB"
URL encoded%C3%AB

Method 2: Type it directly with UTF-8

If your page starts with <meta charset="utf-8"> and the file is saved as UTF-8, you can paste ë straight into the HTML. Entities are only needed when your editor or database cannot store the character.

Method 3: Watch for normalization

ë can also be written as e plus a combining mark. Both look the same but compare as different strings. In JavaScript, call str.normalize("NFC") before comparing or searching.

How to type the capital Ë

The uppercase form works the same way with Shift added where a letter is typed.

About the letter ë

ë is Unicode U+00EB, named LATIN SMALL LETTER E WITH DIAERESIS. It is used in French, Dutch, Welsh, Albanian and Afrikaans. Two dots above a letter. As a German umlaut it changes the vowel sound (ä, ö, ü); as a diaeresis in French, Dutch, Spanish or English (naïve, Noël) it shows that a vowel is pronounced separately.
