How to Type ë (E with umlaut) on Android

ë is e with umlaut, a letter used in French, Dutch, Welsh and Albanian. On Android, the quickest way to get it is Hold e. This guide covers every method that works, including the capital Ë and fixes for common problems.

Method 1: Long-press the letter

  1. Open the keyboard in any app.
  2. Touch and hold the e key.
  3. Slide your finger to ë and lift it.

Method 2: Add the French keyboard

  1. Open Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Gboard → Languages.
