How to Type ď (D with caron) on Google Docs

The letter ď does not have its own key on an English keyboard, but Google Docs still makes it easy to type. Use Insert → Special characters, or pick one of the other methods in this guide. ď appears in Czech and Slovak.

Method 1: Special characters menu

  1. Click Insert → Special characters.
  2. Type "d with caron" or the code 010F in the search box, or draw the letter in the box.
  3. Click ď to insert it.

Method 2: Use your computer's shortcut

Docs accepts whatever your operating system types. On Windows use the Win+. symbols panel; on a Mac use Unicode Hex Input (hold Option and type 010F); on a Chromebook press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 010F and press Space.

Method 3: Automatic substitution

  1. Go to Tools → Preferences → Substitutions.
  2. Add a shortcut such as ddd in the left column and paste ď in the right.
  3. Click OK. Typing the shortcut and a space now inserts ď.

How to type the capital Ď

The uppercase form works the same way with Shift added where a letter is typed.

About the letter ď
