The Accent Letters

Alt Codes for Accented Letters: Full Chart

Published October 1, 2026, 2 min read

Alt codes let you type accented letters on Windows by holding Alt and typing a number on the numeric keypad. Codes that start with 0 come from the Windows-1252 character set and work in almost every program.

How to use an Alt code

  1. Turn on Num Lock.
  2. Hold the left Alt key.
  3. Type the code on the number pad.
  4. Release Alt.

On a laptop without a number pad, use Win+. and the Symbols tab, or the US-International keyboard.
