How to Type ľ (L with caron) on Microsoft Word

The letter ľ does not have its own key on an English keyboard, but Microsoft Word still makes it easy to type. Use 013E then Alt+X, or pick one of the other methods in this guide. ľ appears in Slovak.

Method 1: Alt+X Unicode trick

  1. Type 013E where you want the letter.
  2. Press Alt+X. Word turns the code into ľ.

Press Alt+X again to turn it back into the code. On a Mac, Word uses the macOS methods instead.

Method 2: Insert Symbol

  1. Go to Insert → Symbol → More Symbols.
  2. Set "from" to Unicode (hex) and type 013E in Character code.
  3. Click Insert. You can also assign a shortcut key here.
