Typing these letters quickly

On Windows, the fastest built-in route is an Alt code, for example Alt+0225 for á. On a Mac, press Option+E, then A. On phones, add the Dutch keyboard so every letter sits on the long-press menu. The full typing guide has a chart for every letter.

Capital letters

Every lowercase Dutch letter above has a capital form, and you should keep the accent on capitals. Dropping accents from capitals is an old typewriter habit; modern style guides for most languages, including the official French and Spanish academies, recommend keeping them.

Sorting and searching Dutch text

Computers sort accented letters by code point unless told otherwise, which can put them after z. Use a locale-aware sort (for example localeCompare with the Dutch locale in JavaScript, or a Dutch collation in your database) so lists follow Dutch alphabetical order.
